Statement
Kari Soinio´s work concentrates on sense and representation of corporeality, sexuality and identity in male body. Soinio has experimented extensively with problematics of perception and representation in his auto-portraiture-based work on male body.
He wants to critically look both into masculinity and femininity in masculinity, to show ambiguous bodies with traits of both. He enjoys addressing masculine complacency and self-importance in his work through his own body.
His work derives from and comments both popular culture and history of art and photography.
